Funzi Keys, Diani Beach, Republic of Kenya

$2100 - $19600

There is a place where you can live the perfect moment. Like an incomparable jewel, The Funzi Keys nestles peacefully in the private white sands of its own peninsula. With a special kind of hospitality, it welcomes guests into a garden paradise of friendly calm and natural luxury. At the heart of The Funzi Keys is the informal yet stylish main building, where guests can relax and enjoy refreshing drinks served from the dhow-shaped bar or sample delicious island fare featuring freshly caught seafood and locally grown fruits and vegetables in the upper-level restaurant which overlooks the water. Designed to blend unobtrusively with its idyllic beachfront setting and to reflect the influence of the local culture and coastal architecture, the accommodations consist of nine spacious sea front cottages set along the high-water line and eight sea view cottages, all constructed of stone and thatch with large netted windows open to the balmy sea breezes. Each of the individually designed rooms has a hand carved king-sized four-poster bed and is furnished with local wooden artifacts and colorful fabrics. Beachfront cottages additionally have a jacuzzi with spectacular sea view! All cottages are provided with fans, safes and beach accessories in the oversized bathroom. In front of each cottage is a private sitting area where guests can enjoy a drink and watch the sun go down in total privacy. Most suites and cottages accommodate 2 guests and there are 2 family cottages which accommodate up to 4 guests in 2 bedrooms. The family cottages have an adjoining room for children, with twin beds and en suite facilities. From considerate animal husbandry – adopted from the Masai – to an ecological sewage system, the whole island is committed to sustainability. Funzi is a shining example of soft tourism. On more than 10 acres a new mango plantation is being raised and on a further 150 hectares young Casuarina-, Arborea- and Eucalyptus trees are growing. Chickens, pigs and cattle on the organically run farm are fed without the addition of antibiotics and hormones. And in the carefully laid out herb and vegetable garden only natural products are harvested. No wonder the delicacies conjured up on your plate are so tasty. The Funzi Keys Resort is located at the southernmost part of the Kenya coast, close to the border with Tanzania, hundreds of miles from the Somali border. The resort itself doesn’t face directly onto open sea, but is west facing within Funzi Bay amongst a network of mangrove islands and channels. These facts alone make it an implausible target for any intruders. The resort is adjoining a populated island with a thriving fishing village nearby, and the island’s police station is only 300m from the resort. The resort itself has 24 hour security with constant night time patrols. For the comfort and reassurance of guests, the security has been made more visible and the Torriani family, who own and manage the resort, are also available at all times to any guests who need further re-assurance.
